City Parks, County Conservation Fund New Projects with REAP

DES MOINES - About $4.3 million have been awarded to 30 Iowa communities and 8 county conservation boards through grants from the state's Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program.

In its 21st year, REAP received an $18 million appropriation for the current fiscal year, drawing from state gaming revenues. Sales of natural resource license plates and interest on the account add another $1 million.

Seventy-six applicants in the competitive grant program for cities and county conservation boards had asked for $10.2 million, more than two times the amount available. Grants awarded include

Small cities, population less than 2,000:
