Outdoors Journey AWLS - American Wilderness Leadership School
July 13 - 17, 2009
AWLS allows educators of all types (teachers, scout leaders; etc.) to experience a variety of outdoor skills. If you are inexperienced in the outdoors and always wanted to learn, or if you are already at a higher level of outdoor skill, and want to learn more, AWLS is for you.

Outdoors Journey BOW - Becoming an Outdoors-Woman
September 18 - 20, 2009
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman ("BOW") is a workshop aimed primarily at women, but is an opportunity for anyone 18 years or older to learn outdoor skills usually associated with hunting and fishing, but useful for many outdoor pursuits.

Outdoors Journey Fly Tying & Fishing
October 3-4, 2009 - 2009 Workshop FULL
The Fly Fishing & Tying Outdoor Experience is designed to allow inexperienced fly fishers and tyers the opportunity to obtain the knowledge and skills to fully appreciate these activities. Participants age 16 or older (unless accompanied by an adult) will explore all aspects of the sport with hands-on activities including tying flies, casting a fly rod, and hopefully catching the big one!

HACC HACC - Hunting and Conservation Camp for Boys
June 24 - 26, 2009 and July 29 - 31, 2009
The Hunting and Conservation Camp for boys is designed to introduce a variety of outdoor skills to boys ages 12 - 15. Participants are allowed to experience outdoor skills: shooting (shotguns, rifles, archery, and muzzleloaders), trapping, dog training, hunting (waterfowl, deer, and turkey), gun care/cleaning, game calling, and conservation. It is sponsored by DNR and Pheasants Forever. To register, contact your local Pheasants Forever chapter or the Springbrook Conservation Education Center.

Youth Hunt MOE - Mentored Outdoor Experience
November 20-22, 2009
Mentored Outdoor Experience: Deer Hunt (MOE) is designed to allow inexperienced deer hunters the opportunity to obtain the knowledge to allow them to fully appreciate their activity, as well as participate in a controlled deer hunt with a mentor.

Outdoors Journey

OJ - Outdoor Journey for Girls
June 10 - 12, July 14 - 16 and August 5 -7, 2009
Outdoor Journey for Girls ("OJ") is a 3-day, 2-night workshop aimed at introducing outdoor skills to girls ages 12-15 in a supportive, learning environment where they have opportunities to try things "hands-on". The program is held at the IDNR's Springbrook Education Center, north of Guthrie Center.

Project AWARE

Project A.W.A.R.E.
June 20-27, 2009
Project AWARE - which stands for A Watershed Awareness River Expedition - spends one week each summer cleaning up an Iowa river. Comprised of volunteers from around the state, the group travels by canoe, pulling out trash from the river as they go. Some participants take water samples throughout the trip, checking levels of nitrates, pH, dissolved oxygen and numbers of insects living in the river.

Iowa Youth Hunter Education Challenge

Youth Hunter Education Challenge
June 5-7, 2009
Iowa YHEC (Youth Hunter Education Challenge) is a weekend-long event that takes place each June at the 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center in Madrid, Iowa. Youth from all over Iowa come to compete in eight events, learn about the outdoors, and have fun with other youth and adults that have similar interests. Registration deadline is May 1, 2009.

NatureMapping

NatureMapping
NatureMapping trains citizens how to monitor and report wildlife and the habitats they observe them in. Workshops are held across the state for a minimum of 15 participants. Visit the Iowa NatureMapping web site for a list of upcoming workshops.

Fishing Clinics

Free fishing clinics are offered across Iowa. Activities may include fish identification, how to operate a reel, casting techniques, knot tying, and fish cleaning techniques. Check out the list of upcoming fishing clinics.

IOWATER

IOWATER
IOWATER is a statewide volunteer water quality monitoring program. Workshops are open to any individual or group that is interested in water quality. Upon completion of the workshop, you will be a certified Level 1 IOWATER Citizen Monitor.

Projects WILD, WILD Aquatic, & Learning Tree

WILD, WILD Aquatic, and PLT materials are available to formal and nonformal educators through workshops on request for groups of at least 15 educators and/or youth leaders. Workshops also are provided through several colleges and universities. View a current workshop list.
